Moelv is the second largest center (after Brumunddal) in the municipality of Ringsaker. It is situated at Lake Mjøsa at the mouth of the Moelva river.

Moelv originated as a village with mills and sawmills and later became a stop when the railroad arrived in 1894. Moelven Industrier; a Scandinavian industrial group that produces building products for the construction industry is located here. Moelv also houses Norway's oldest distillery; Strand Brænderi, founded in 1843. Seven burial ruins from the Iron Age and one of several cultural monuments in Moelv, are located at the estate of the distillery.
