Dovre Church was built in 1736 and inaugurated in 1740, then named Zions Church. The church was originally a timber church until it was slate clad in 1840-41. The baptismal font is from the middle ages and was brought there from an older church at Bergsengjordet.
The altarpiece is carved out by Johannes Skraastad in the late 17th century, while Lars Pinnerud created the pulpit and chancel raft beam in the first part of the 18th century,
Nearby Dovre Church, by Svensgard an even older church is believed to have stood. It was described as "Sveinsgardkyrkja a Dofrum" in the Vatican archives. From this church an old Mary-figure from around 1250-1300 is kept, as well as a door ring in iron decorated with an animal head.
