Hvor krevende en tur er bestemmes blant annet av antall høydemeter (stigning) og lengde på turen. Selv om turen går i flatt terreng, kan den merkes med rødt dersom den er veldig lang. Og motsatt, selv om turen er kort, kan den merkes med svart dersom den går i bratt og krevende terreng.

Day 1: (12,8 km) Eidsvoll - Kveldsro

From Eidsvoll, the trail leads you uphill to Fv.177. Follow the county road and parallel gravel roads for about three kilometers. Continue on a farm road and further on to paths and gravel roads. You pass Holtdammen and a gapahuk (simple shelter for accommodation). The trail follows the river Holtåa and into the forest. After a few kilometers you reach the idyllic lake Fløyta.

The idyllic pilgrim hostel, Kveldsro, is on the western side of the lake. Turn left from the pilgrim path before the dam and follow the path for about 1.5 kilometers. To get back on the pilgrim route, follow the path further north for about 800 meters. At the end of the lake there is a nice picnic area, benches and outdoor toilet.

Day 2: (10,3 km) Fløyta - Sannfredstun

Continue on gravel roads until the route picks up a forest path to lake Lyssjøen, and gravel roads and paths into the woods of Stange almenning (common land). From here, the Pilgrim trail and the Rondande path partly follow each other on paths and gravel roads towards Granerudsjøen (Granerud lake). Turn left in the junction at Granerudgrenda and cabin area. Here is the newly built gapahuk, Pilegrimsbua. The shelter contains toilet, garbage disposal, water, campfire site and outhouse. Enjoy this place to rest, or spend the night in your tent or hammock. Close by, the lake offers a nice swimming area. Continue for another three kilometers, and you´ll reach Sannfredstun. Near the farm, you can stay the night in your tent. The property has an outhouse. If you want to go for a swim, the lake Spetalsjøen is nearby.

Day 3. (8 km) Sannfredstun - Millom

Follow the gravel gravel road to Spitalen, a site where there may have been a medieval hospital for pilgrims. 7,5 kilometers further north, you´ll reach the old shieling Romsetra, which is a gem surrounded by old farmhouses and ideal for a break before continuing on gravel roads and paths to Milllom.

Day 4: (13,2) Millom - Ingeborg Refling Hagens kulturhus Fredheim

After a few kilometers downhill towards Lake Mjøsa, you reach Espa petrol station and a café. The pilgrim route follows the shoreline of Mjøsa on asphalt, to the small village Tangen. Worth visiting is Tangen church, which is an octagonal church built in 1861.

At the path, bout one kilometer north of the train station, is Ingeborg Refling Hagen's culture house - Fredheim. The place is in memory of the author and poet Ingeborg Refling Hagen. In the yard there is a newly renovated pilgrim hostel, sleeping three guests.

Day 5: (21,4 km) Tangen - Herkestad gård, Stange Vestbygd

The Pilgrim path continues on gravel roads through pine forests and fields until you reach the next section; Stange Vestbygd. Now the landscape opens up towards Lake Mjøsa and we walk into one of Norway’s richest agricultural villages and a landscape with great cultural and historical value.

After a few kilometers on gravel roads, you reach Stange church, one of Norway’s oldest medieval churches, recorded as early as 1225 in the Håkon Håkonsen saga.

In the western hills near Mjøsa, there are large old farms and manor houses one after another. Some of them are described in Icelandic and Norwegian kings’ sagas like the legendary saga of St. Olaf.

We recommend a break at one of the farm cafés serving tasty local specialities in season.

About six kilometers from the church, turn left and follow a gravel road bordered by a birch avenue and then across Atlungstad golf course to Atlungstad Brenneri. In this historic distillery you will experience Norwegian distillery history and Norwegian aquavit production for the last 150 years. Restaurant/café onsite serving homemade, local dishes.

Day 6: (8,6 km) Stange Vestbygd - Hamar

The route follows paths and paved roads along Lake Mjøsa towards Hamar city center. At Stange Bridge there is a fine view towards the Åkersvika nature reserve and the Hamar Olympic Hall known as the Viking Ship.

The route continues through the town along the shoreline of Lake Mjøsa to the Pilgrim Centre Hamar. The centre is a visitor and information centre as well as a pilgrims' hostel.

The centre is situated on historical ground beside the Pilgrims' path, and you can look directly across to Hamar Cathedral, which was and still is an important pilgrimage destination for many pilgrims.

At Domkirkeodden you can experience the medieval Hamar, an open air museum, exhibitions and hear about how medieval monks used plants in cooking and for medicinal use the country’s biggest organic herb garden, inspired by the Herb Garden of St. Olav monastery.

Information

Due to the variation in standard of accommodation, you should bring sleeping bags, food and supplies on your way into the Stange Almenning (common land). There are none grocery shops between Eidsvoll and Tangen.

Travel information:

The region is located 128 kilometers north of Oslo, at route E6. It is easy to get to by car, train or bus. Oslo and Oslo Airport Gardermoen are the main gateways for both international and national arrivals to Hamar. Departures every hour by train from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Hamar with VY. Approximate time: 1 hour.

Pilgrim’s Passport:

Pilgrims get free entrance to the Glass Cathedral and a discount to the museum ground (NOK 70), when they show their pilgrim’s passport. Passports are available at the Pilgrim Centre (NOK 50). The pilgrim’s passport also includes a discount onboard DS Skibladner.

Season:

May - September.

Atlungstad Distillery offers open, guided tours from June to August.
