Spitalen

Spitalen (an old word meaning hospital) originates from a group of farms in Stange. Oslo Hospital owned several farms in the area around Stange in the 17th century.

To walk along Mjøsa lake between Minnesund and Espa was considered to be almost impossible due to steep precipices along the lake. Therefore it's likely that travelers, including pilgrims, would be walking this way through Spitalen.
